Wembley High Road works to continue until mid-Janaury

Brent Council has confirmed that Thames Water has been given a second extension to complete their main sewer works in Wembley High Road. The new completion date is mind-January 2018.

Responding to a query about the replacement of the mature trees removed as a result of the works, the Council said that they would be replaced in Wembley Central ward but not in the High Road as there was no suitable site there.

Hate to say it but "Told you so". Still slogging away and 2nd shaft dug, saw them working both days last weekend, so feeling hopeful it will all be over by the new year. Very sad to hear that the tree's will not be replaced nor the island! which was bought and paid for by Olympic money. As for no suitable site, Ark Elvin's frontage on the High Road could supply a nice location, along with some grass and seating.

Will there be any frontage left when the school moves to its new premises and the strip on the High Road is handed over to developers?

No planning permission has gone in as yet, and there is still more construction second phase to complete the school. I would like to think we could campaign to have the frontage reverted back to green open space give us back some of the park they have taken, and also it's worth noting that Henley Homes Development is more than 20% short of amenity space required for the number of properties planned.

It will also provide some respite from all the huge concrete towers planned for Wembley Central and the locals would benefit from the Trees on the High Road, to help mitigate air pollution in this very densely populated ward.

Hear, hear. Along with a public loo!

There is definitely need of green space and somewhere where people can just sit and contemplate in this area, especially since Brent Council will no doubt be converting Ujima House into residential units.

I have never heard anything so ludicrous as Brent Council's comment re the replacement of the trees taken out.
Since they claim that there are no suitable places for them to put them in the High Road am I correct in assuming that since there is not space for the trees which are needed to absorb and deal with pollutant gasses from diesel and petrol vehicles then these will not be allowed to travel along Wembley High Road and that the only vehicles allowed to enter this area will be electrically powered vehicles or bicycles. Oh what bliss!!!

A resident responded to Brent Council:

Please do not merely say that these trees will be planted somewhere in the Wembley Central ward - there are plenty of places in Wembley High Road where these replacement trees can be replanted – how about the stretch from Wilkinson’s down to Primark? – there are no trees on this part of Wembley High Road and they would help the environment and make the high road look more attractive.

We have already had so many trees hacked down needlessly in the Wembley Central area (with no signs of them being replaced) and we need these ones re-instated in the area where they can help the environment the most.

I bet they the Council would find a space for a statue of Councillor Butt and his Quintain buddies!! Trees clearly don't have any value in the eyes of this Council.
