Chalkhill in the 1970s

This is some silent British Pathe News footage of the Chalkhill Estate, Wembley take in the 1970s. Originally the site of big houses with large gardens, Chalkhill was redeveloped between 1966-70 to cater for the housing needs of the Borough of Willesden, It consisted of 30 'Bison' blocks and was based on Park Hill, Sheffield. After 2000 these blocks were demolished and replaced by the present mix of  flats and terraced housing.

There is now much less green space on the Estate than in the previous build. Plans are now in progress for the construction of a new park on the estate on the grounds vacated by the Chalkhill Health Centre. Interestingly the new park will also have a water feature.
