Butt confirms 'dramatic' parking charge reduction being considered

A swift and unsolicited reaction to my earlier exclusive story on parking charges LINK:
Councillor Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council said:

“While no final decision will be made until we have consulted fully with residents and Councillors, we are looking closely at dramatically reducing charges for the first 20 minutes of parking. I’m personally strongly in favour of it as I believe it will help local businesses and residents at a time when they need it most. But we will have to say what the public think first.

I am delighted that Cllr. Butt wants 'to see what the public think first' on this and any other issue. Past experience shows that, in many cases, even when Brent does "consult" with local people, it then finds excuses to ignore what they think and say. I hope that this time, and for all future consultations, Brent will not only see what people think but act in accordance with their reasonable wishes.

Why not make 1st 20 minutes free but the machine still issues ticket with car reg number. The life will become a lot easier and people will feel liberated to use more of our high street stores.
